Now we have one more thing to worry about. Researchers at the UC San Diego’s Non-Volatile Systems Laboratory have determined that confidential data is not safe if stored on solid state disks (SSDs). Traditional methods of sanitizing magnetic storage just don’t work the same with solid state drives. The results are pretty scary since the researchers were able to get access to the “supposedly wiped” data by directly accessing the flash chips, where the data remained intact.
It’s just another reason NOT to spend all that extra money on SSDs yet. At least not until they fix flash translation layer (FTL) for the drives.
